Suzy Q
In memory of my precious Suzy Q the Poo,
In October of 1993, Suzy Q was put up for adoption by the Animal Foundation here in Las Vegas. A day after I chose her to be my new "best friend and little girl," I realized she had been terribly abused by her previous owner. After a couple of years of much work, training, and most of all, lots and lots of love, she came around to appreciate becoming a member of a caring family. Her devotion to her grandparents, her aunt, kitty cat sisters, and me, her mommy, was unparalleled. In addition to her family, she also made many friends during her last six years who will always remember the joy she gave them. When I got Suzy Q she had not a clue how to play with toys. It took about six months for her to understand how much fun they could be. One of my fondest memories is her tossing her various "babies" into the air, grabbing them and then shaking her head around with the "babies" in her mouth.
Whenever I prepared any meal that used vegetables, she would sit in the kitchen and wait for her share of mushroom, tomatoes, or whatever she liked. We could not have yogurt for dessert without her waiting very impatiently to lick the dish.
Suzy also has the distinction of being in a piece of art that is in the entry to some of the suites I decorated at Circus Circus in Las Vegas as well as Tunica, Mississippi. People who never knew her can appreciate her special beauty.
This past March we discovered Suzy Q had developed Lymphoma. She went through 6 months of chemotherapy and was a miracle patient during that time. She hardly felt the side affects and came to look forward to the trips to see her wonderful doctor, Dr. Sherry Babyack. In October, we discovered she had developed another type of cancer on her spleen and the chemo stopped working. We hoped she would live to the end of this year, but Tuesday, November 15, she succumbed to the dreaded disease. I know in my heart that Suzy Q is already over the Rainbow Bridge and has met her other sisters that previously were a part of my family. I am sure they are all getting to know and love each other, and she is enjoying being where she is now.
My family and I miss her terribly. She had been a special link for my mother when my father died a couple of years ago. She gave my mother a purpose in life by caring for Suzy Q during the days when I went to work. Suzy Q also knew that when her life was over, we would find another needy angel. Therefore, as we prepare to go on with our lives, she will still forever be in our hearts. We love you Suzy!
