Hershey
Hershey was a Pekingnese Pomeranian mix who weighed eight pounds fully grown.. I adopted Hershey when he was eight weeks old and named him Hershey, because he loved to kiss everybody. The first night I bought him home, our late cat Sophie adopted him as her "kitten" and slept with him. She then taught him to use the scratching post, which indicated to me that he needed companionship with other dogs. Hershey was the sweetest dog for years. He traveled with us everywhere around the country and loved to kick ball, and run and chase stuffed toys. His favorite toy was a stuffed walrus, which he absolutely loved. When the doorbell rang, he would rush to the front door to greet the visitors. Hershey was such a kind dog, that in 2019, he became a PAWS therapy dog. He went with me to schools, hospitals and nursing homes, where people smiled with joy,
petted and loved him. He was a peaceful animal which rarely barked. He also was a fast walker who could walk two miles!
Over the past two years, his health deteriorated due to his age. He became deaf, almost blind and had episodes of dementia where he would cry, and scream if one tried to change his harness. In the last month, he had great difficulty walking. He spent most of the time sleeping. Suddenly earlier this month, he vomited excessively and could not keep his food down. Hewas literallly starving, The vet examined him and said he was in acute kidney failure. Sadly,,we said goodby to our pup, who had to be euthanized.
Hershey was such an amazing and amusing animal. He loved company, and people loved him. He got along very well with our cats. He also loved other dogs.. Most of all, he was kind and loving to me and my husband. It was so sad to see him go, and we'll always miss him.
Rest in peace Dear Hershey. We will see you someday at the Rainbow Bridge
