Charley, Joey & Midnight

2010 – 2026

Sixteen years ago, I trapped momma cat, Midnight, and her litter. I adopted most of them out but kept the momma, Midnight, Charley (girl), and Joey (boy).

I was able to tame Joey right away and brought him in the house. I also finally tamed Midnight but could never get close to Charley, no matter what I tried. So she and her mamma lived in my garage for 16 years. They had a cat door, 2 heated beds, a cat cave, self-dispensing water and when we were out of town, a petsitter twice a day.

Midnight crossed over this past January, Joey passed April 27 from kidney failure and I had to say goodbye to Charley May 20.

Joey was the best cat, traveling with us in his travel house without a peep, he slept next to me every night, and was just the sweetest, most affectionate kitty. He even tolerated me decorating him on holidays.

Midnight was also very sweet and loved her rubs, she was a great mom to Charley, keeping other neighborhood freeloader cats from coming in the cat door and eating their food. That all changed when she passed but Charley seemed okay with sharing. And then it was Charley’s time. She quit eating and I knew I couldn’t take her in for treatment so I had to trap her to say goodbye and help her on her next journey to the bridge. And after 16 years, I finally got to love on her. 💔🐈‍⬛

How absolutely beautiful Kitty Heaven must be.

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
