Venture
I first met Venture while volunteering at Best Friends in Utah. He was 5 years old at the time, and it was love at first sight. This photo features him representing the month of May in the Best Friends 2021 calendar.
His story, as told to me by Best Friends staff members, was that he spent the first 5 years of his life in a backyard pen and basically served as a guard dog. His owners said he was becoming too aggressive and asked their vet to euthanize him. The vet refused and instead, sent him off to Best Friends.
With lots of love and a new name (Dogtown staff named him Venture which suited him perfectly), he gradually began to relax and realize that not everything in the world is a threat. I was able to adopt him while I was there and the team helped me to transport him to his new home in Ohio.
Venture turned out to be an amazing companion. He enjoyed hiking, exploring and going for long car rides. He brought endless joy and happpiness to my life. Seven years later, just short of his 12th birthday, age took its toll and I had to say goodbye.
Thank you, Best Friends, for introducing me to this magnificant creature who changed my life. I miss him from the bottom of my heart, every single day.
Rest in Peace, my sweet boy.
