Gustav
Poem for Gustav
My sweet angel baby,
My most precious little love,
An angel sent you down from heaven,
Now they’ve come to take you back above.
You would curl up in my lap,
A warmth that filled my heart with light,
Each time you chose to sit with me,
It felt like seeing a shooting star at night.
Never did it grow old,
Never did my heart grow less full,
Every moment you chose me—
I felt so loved, so joyful.
You were my snuggliest boy,
A precious tradition I held dear,
And now, your absence lingers,
It’s more than my heart can bear.
I’ll miss the way you looked at me,
With such love in your eyes,
The way your one winky eye
Told me you were ready for a playful surprise.
You'd roam the house with toys to give,
Meowing, as though to say,
"Here, a gift for you, my love,"
A present you’d deliver every day.
I will miss hearing your purrs,
Those gentle sighs, so deep and true,
Those sleepy sounds you made as you stretched,
In those quiet moments, just me and you.
Too soon, the angels have come,
To take my little love back home.
But know, sweet angel baby,
That I never wanted you to go.
My heart will always hold you,
A bond no space can break,
For in the depths of love we share,
Your spirit will never fade.
