Belladonna

2020 – 2025

This sassy tortie girl nestled herself into my life and my heart forever. I had no intention of adopting my first ever foster animal, but she made this nearly impossible when I took her home a second time to help her recover from an ear infection. I knew that she had chosen me and that I wouldn’t be saying goodbye again. We needed each other. Our veterinarian discovered a heart murmur and weeks later, we frequented the emergency vet to cope with her CHF diagnosis. We truly did all we could. She and my other rainbow bridge animals showed me the purest and most unwavering love. Belladonna taught me patience, resilience, and so much kindness. All at once, the 3 months I knew her were incredibly beautiful, painful, complex, and life-changing. I love you forever and I think of you and miss you every single day. Thank you for everything, my Belly D girl.

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
You and Belladonna ending up together was fate. You needed her and she needed you— what a special gift for both of you. Little Belly gave us purring and faucet-guzzling and spider batting, and I will never forget her. And because of you, sweet Caroline, she was able to live her final days in her forever home— safe and cared for and surrounded by love 🐾
