Nimasí Calamity

2020 – 2022

Nimasí was such a great cat who got along with all our dogs, he was so tough he would even protect our dogs from other dogs, sometimes I think he thought he was a little dog himself!

Nimasí came from a litter of kittens that belonged to my sister, his mom’s name was Pickles. We kept Nimasí because my daughter wanted to keep one kitten as all the others were surrendered to the humane society by my sister. Nimasí got his Navajo name meaning “potato” because he liked to nap in the potato cabinet all the time! He definitely grew fast on us the two years we spent with him.

Nimasí slept outside one day in May and got attacked by a dog to where he was seriously injured and there was no way to save him. My mom and sister took him to the emergency vet in town and it was there they did x-rays and ultrasounds and determined his organs were to damaged and tangled up to repair. The vet humanely put him to sleep.

We will always remember Nimasí as our tough cat dog, always happy, napping, hunting, and playing outside. I wish we kept him inside that night, but sometimes the unexpected happens and we have to make the best choice for our loved animals. We love you Nimasí.

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
