Webster

2011 – 2025

Webster passed peacefully in the comfort of his home on January 31, 2025 at 2:32pm. Webster had the best playful personality and was a charming and sweet gentleman. He was rescued at 8 weeks old and lived to 13 years. He was so adored by his family - James, Shawlini, Veena & Leela. We are beyond grateful that we had the gift of his love for his entire lifetime. He loved to run, eat yummy peanut butter treats and turkey and loved to cuddle up. One of his favorite places was Carl Schurz Park where he would smell all the good smells among the flowers and lay in the green grass. He was cherished by many friends both human and furry alike. We are comforted that he is at the rainbow bridge in heaven with his dear sister, Lucy and so many beloveds. Webster was one special dog and he will live forever in our hearts. One day we will see you again, Webby boy! We love you so much.

Story of Webster:
Webster was rescued from Bideawee at 8 weeks old. Originally from TN, he came to NYC with his litter mates through TN Rolling Rescue who rescued them from the euthanasia list at a high kill shelter. We actually came to see one of his brothers who was on the Bideawee website (he wasn’t) and all his siblings were predominantly black with some white. When we got to the rescue, they said all the puppies featured in his litter were sick and not cleared yet to be seen except for him the only one the opposite coloring (similar to our already rescued Lucy) predominantly white and black. They asked “Do you want to see him?” We said “Sure!” It was an instant connection. We brought Lucy to meet him and it was love at first sight. They were immediately siblings. Webster was meant to be ours. How grateful we are to have had the gift of his love and companionship for his entire lifetime and to be his forever family.

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
Webby was such a sweet and sunshiney boy. He could always bring a smile to your face with his playfulness. It was special to watch Webster become a big brother to Veena and Leela and how he and sister Lucy helped make Shawl and James parents. We will miss you Webster!

Webster and I became very close during the peak Covid years when I was caring for V. He quickly became a close companion and source of joy during the days where we often were stuck inside for hours since many businesses were closed or it was too cold/hot to be outside for too long. My fondest memories of him include the following:
On Valentines Day a few years ago, V came home with a valentine addressed to me. I was thrilled! I left it on the table and, within just a few minutes of helping V go to the bathroom, he naughtily snatched it off the table and ripped it to bits! I think he was jealous… ;) Oh I was so sad! But he looked SO darn cute at the scene of the crime with the shredded up paper, I couldn’t help but smile. Me and V were laughing so hard chasing him around the apartment afterwards to tease him for the misdemeanor and play with him, because after all, he’s just a silly pup :) It’s such a happy memory, despite me losing out on a cute valentine card !

V and I often would do obstacle courses in the house to pass the time, where we’d do somersaults on the couch cushions. He’d be looking on, race over to us, and get all flustered in his ol grandpa way as if to say “you be careful now!” to check up on us after we’d stick the landing. He was always looking out for his fam :)

Hed always come cuddle with me and give me kisses anytime I was over; the best buddy there ever was. He gave me so much love on days where it felt hard to exist with a lot of chaos around my career and living in the city during such a crazy health crisis. Forever grateful for his presence ❤️

I'll never forget the first time I met Webby — I was so impressed by his sweet and calm demeanor. I took to him very quickly because as a "cat person" I always bond most easily with doggos who are more on the chill side. Webby was on that kind of wavelength, and he made me feel perfectly at ease. I think he had that impression on a lot of people, because it's clear how many lives he touched in a pawsitive way. There's no doubt he's now frolicking again with his big sis Lucy, and while I know his human family misses him dearly, there's sure to be comfort in the many memories he left behind. RIP to Webby, a beautiful and special soul!

Webster was an absolute sweetheart and we will miss him so much. He was a great NYC dog - a good walker and loved walking in the park near his apartment by the river. He was always full of personality and silliness and enjoyed treats and training and when I visited him in NYC he was always ready for a little snuggling too. He loved being with his family the most, right in the middle of things and observing all the happenings esp with the kiddos. We loved spending time with him over the holidays. Even though he didn’t feel well he still wagged his tail letting us know he recognized us and was excited to see us. He even came over for some pets and to get loved on. We were so touched by how sweet he was and loved that he was comfortable and took some nice long naps in the sunshine at our house. We will miss you dear Webster and feel very grateful to have known you and been a part of your life. You will have many friends waiting for you at Rainbow Bridge - of course your big sister Lucy will be front and center happily waiting for your arrival and you will see your pal Scout too, probably waiting to play ball and get into trouble together. We will see you again on the other side and until then we will remember you as our very special furry friend - Webbington J. Schmedley.

Webster was truly the best boy. Always "Mr. Webby Dog" to me, we were friends for over six years. Too many adventures to name but mostly I always loved taking him to Carl Schurz to explore and watching Veena throw his toys for him in the hallway to fetch and hearing her giggle. Another favorite memory I discovered while petsitting for him was that he loved the live action Cinderella movie starring Lily James. We watched it many times, mostly because I was amazed at how interested he was in actually watching it! He showed me unconditional love from the day we met and made me laugh more times than I can count. I'll miss him so much, but I know he is safe and happy and watching over us all. Mr. Webby Dog, you are loved!
