A Best Friends Angels Rest Pet Memorial

Mickey

2010 – 2024

One last walk, one last ride,
One last lean into my side,
Feel the sun, feel the breeze,
Feel the grass beneath your feet.

Feel me here, right by your side,
And Forever you’ll reside
In my heart, in my soul,
In my mind, wherever I go.

Feel my love, know I’m here,
Feel my touch, know no fear.
Walk now, love, towards the light,
You are whole, you have Sight.

Go, have fun - run and run,
Through the fields, towards the sun.
You’ll find a park - find Frodo there,
Right by the Bridge, near Golden Stairs.
One day I’ll join, and you will be
My Shadow again - for Eternity.

Mickey came into my life in 2012, after my daughter insisted that I keep my promise to get a family dog, and pushed us to move out of the apartments and into a pet friendly home.
He had been abused, and was considered special needs by his rescue. God bless them for seeing something in us and entrusting him into our care, despite us being first time dog parents.
His special needs drove me to learn everything I could about dog behavior, emotions, and how they see the world; his legacy is the smile on the face of every fearful pup I have rehabilitated at the Rescue where I volunteer for the past few years.
He made me a better person, and yes, a crazy dog mom. My heart will stretch to make room for others, but the place in my heart that is his will always be filled with him. And the pain in that piece of my heart is overwhelming right now.

Mickey, my precious little angel - you are whole now, you are running pain free again and your troubles are behind you. Sleep, now, sweetheart. And find a little perch to sit and wait, as I know you will, until I come to find you at the Rainbow Bridge.

My Little Engine That Could has reached his station. 🚂

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
