Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.

Cali, I was working for Best Friends embedded at the North Central Los Angeles Animal Services shelter the day you were surrendered, New Years Eve, either 2014 or 2015..
I don’t remember why you were surrendered; I just knew you needed some comfort that afternoon, and I found a big fluffy blanket and we sat in your kennel and cuddled for a long time that afternoon. You were an enthusiastic and charismatic force - too much for the handful of well-meaning adopters who tried you out through the years. Thankfully, there was a safety net there for you each time, and many, many staff and volunteers from LAAS and Best Friends who carried you through the years til you enjoyed your loving “retirement” at The Sanctuary. The pictures of your graying face showed more happiness and peace in your eyes than in the days I worked with you-I am so grateful to have known you and been a part of your journey.

You are invited to join us the last Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. MT as we remember the lives of pets we have loved and lost. For those who are not able to attend in person, a video recording of each blessing is posted soon thereafter online.
