King Charles
King Charles was small but mighty. When he was brought home, he fit in the palm of my hand. After a few months of hay, lettuce, and the occasional strawberry, he graduated from a cage to a hutch to a whole room - to being named on the lease of an apartment. He could not be contained.
His personality grew too. I used to think he took after me, but I learned far more from him. He taught me to not let anyone in my life that didn't show me (or him) respect, to advocate for myself (even if not through words), and to make a change if my environment no longer fit what I needed.
King Charles gave me a reason to keep living and live we did - across three states, nine homes, two degrees. We experienced new places and old friends and exciting celebrations and incredible loss together (one of which resulted in the adoption of his brother). But most importantly, we experienced so, so much joy.
It is this joy that spread to everyone who met him and it is this joy that I will hold onto.
King Charles was small but mighty; too mighty to stay on this earth in such a small body, and too big to ever be forgotten.
