Kerme
Kerme was rescued from a Vegas shelter at 9 months old. Even as a puppy he had already been through some traumatic experiences that left him scared and reactive. When I first adopted him, you could not touch him while he slept, or he awoke and tried to nip at you. He also cried out if anyone touched his sweet, furry ears. After years of patience and time to heal from whatever experiences he dealt with as a puppy, Kerme became the sweetest dog who loved to cuddle and meet new people, as long as they did not pet his ears.
He loved to dig! Chasing moles underground or lizards. One day I came home to find Kerme sitting on the front porch, having dug himself out of the backyard trying to get to a lizard I suspect. Who knows how long he patiently sat at the front door waiting to get back inside the safety of our home.
In our travels across the country, I found out that Kerme longed to chase all things, as a true terrier would. Squirrels, birds and even a hot air balloon in the sky. He would see them and want to tackle them and smell them, maybe even taste them. He never caught anything, not for a lack of trying. I am sure he is terrorizing small creatures wherever he is now.
I will always remember how incredibly soft his fur was and his beautiful coloring of blondes, whites and silver. I once asked my hairdresser to try and match his coloring.
I miss you terribly, Kerm the worm. I enjoyed every day I had with you and I hope you did as well.
