Hops

2010 – 2026

Thank you for helping us to say goodbye to our beloved Hops, who brought joy, spirit, and so much love into our lives for more than 15 wonderful years.

Hops was tiny in size but thought she was the biggest of dogs. She was in charge of every room she entered, and made sure that everyone knew it. For years she kept her brother Barley firmly in line, bossing him around but loving him deeply all the same. When we said goodbye to him last year, she felt his absence in ways that reminded us just how big her heart was.

Hops adored people and never wanted to be alone. When guests came to visit, she was in her element, and when the time came for anyone to leave, she made her feelings known. She never was one to let a good gathering end without a protest.

But there was one person who held the top spot in Hops' heart above all others: her papa. That bond was something truly special, and anyone who saw them together knew it.

Rest in peace, dear Hops. Thank you for the feisty spirit, the fierce love, and the unforgettable moments you brought into our lives. You and Barley are together again now. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
I can only imagine Hops's younger years, the old lady that I walked had a personality and attitude that would exude from her adorably tiny body. She ran in leaps and bounds, made her discomfort with wearing jackets very clear, and when she sneezed you'd think she was about to take off flying! Her and her brother Barely were just spoiled enough to know that they deserved all the treats and love in the world, which is exactly what they got. Hops was loved by everyone who met her. My condolences to Rachel and Nagib, far and away her favorite people.

Nagib & Rachel,

Nico and I were among the lucky few who met Hops on day one, when you first brought that tiny white fur ball home at The Olivia. It was love at first sight! She was small enough to almost fit in the palm of our hand, but somehow carried the personality of a much larger, slightly grumpy monarch.

We were really looking forward to seeing her this Saturday, giving her some belly rubs the same way we used to give Barley, and being judged by her again.

Sixteen years is a remarkable run for such a tiny dog with such a large presence. Hops clearly packed a lot of character into those years!

We are thinking of you and remembering that fierce little ball of attitude very fondly. Hopsy was unforgettable to us four 🤍

I’m sadden to mark the passing of sweet Hops. It was such a privilege to care for her over the past couple of years. When we first met, she was a feisty little troublemaker, full of personality and always keeping me on my toes as she charged down the block without a care that Barley was meandering behind us. Over the years, she mellowed a bit and her sweetness truly shined, Hops was quite the snuggler! I’ll always remember her adorable little fluttering ears, how she happily darted around the house and the joy she brought to everyone who spent time with her. She will be deeply missed. Sending furry hugs to Nagib and Rachel. 💔🐾

It’s amazing how much sass you can fit into such a small package, as Hops had sass by the bucketful. Never a shy pup, she lit up the room with her presence and her personality. Hops and Barley were the perfect pair. Hops was the yin to Barley’s yang and there’s nothing they loved more than being hand fed by Papa at the table. Life will never be the same without you. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Dear Rachel and Nagib -

We are so sorry for the loss of your little Queen Hops. She was the mightiest little digger who won everyone over, including our child, who was scared of all furry friends for many years. I will never forget road tripping to Kristin and Matt’s wedding with Nagib, Hops and Barley. Hops sat in my lap the entire trip. She won me over within the first5 minutes!! We loved your little fur babies. Hops and Barley had the best lives with their parents who gave them all the love, comfort, adventure and gourmet food they could ever want. May they rest in peace and their memory give you both comfort during this difficult time. Sending love to you both.

Hops was the tiniest of dogs with the biggest of personalities. I always felt joy when she and Barley would run to the front door together - and I always got in trouble from Hops if I said hello to Barley first 😁❤️. I loved it when she chose me to sit next to (although it usually had something to do with the proximity of the papa 🤣). She let her feelings be known on all of the topics, especially the topics of big dogs and leaving a party. She loved her papa and mama and her big brother who chose her. She had a truly wonderful life surrounded by love. You will be remembered little Hops.
