Estrella

2025

Estrella was a “stray” full of passion, charisma, and a feisty, indomitable spirit that fended off threats - from German Shepherds in Central Park to horses in Tombstone - she showed no fear! She attacked a water bottle at a bar in Flagstaff once. Her unwavering spirit earned her the title, “Tasmanian Devil.” Our fiery Chihuahua had scraps at a BBQ gone awry in California and outside a little library in Park Slope. She challenged a man in Brooklyn and a lady in Detroit, but did no damage other than bruise a man's ego. She found her true love (a much younger male) in White Sands. She made sport of chasing birds and was lifted a few inches in the air by a large pigeon once.

She loved to travel, jumping in suitcases, looking out the window seat, prancing down terminals like she owned them, barking, stirring up drama, and basking in the attention. She manipulated my mom’s dogs like a baroness, but she had respect for cats, especially Carl (pictured).

In her later years, she was vocal about her political views and campaigned, chasing the mailman, fended off the garbage truck, and leading our neighborhood lady walk with pride. She never lost her sense of play, wrestling with our puppy, keeping inventory of her toys., and practicing R-Rated moves with her pillow. On her last morning, she challenged a wild turkey by the window.

She is sorely missed. Without our alpha, we look for her leadership in the stars. We love you, Estrella, and can’t wait to see what trouble you are stirring up in Heaven, but please, leave God’s cloak alone - he knows what he is doing!

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
