Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
Heart was the embodiment of pure, unconditional love for people and her fellow greyhound friends. She is a legend among those who have been lucky enough to meet her. She kept herself alive for days when lost in a maze of freeways and stray dogs. The moment she was found, all who spent days searching for her, knew she was a survivor! Heart went on to overcome many fears, and to create a deep bond with her loving mom, Marilyn, and crazy sister, Dawn! We'll never forget you, Heart. Thank you for everything.❤️

Heart
Heart was my foster greyhound and our family loved having her for a short time before she found a new home. Unfortunately, she escaped that new home and ran on the streets for a few days. Probably trying to find us we think. Thankfully, she was found and not harmed, but just really scared. We thought about keeping her, but I already had my other greyhound, Maverick. I was so happy that Marilyn took her in and we could still see her on our greyhound walks. Heart will always have a special place in all of our hearts. So sorry for your loss Marilyn. 💕 Milelli family

Heart was a gentle hound that went through a very scary and difficult time when, shortly after retiring from life as a race dog, she went missing for four days and during an intense heatwave, no less. This experience nearly broke her. But Marilyn rescued her and with patience and a loving hand, she helped Heart blossom into the affectionate, outgoing pup we all came to know.

Marilyn, the bond that you shared with Heart will remain eternal. May your memories of this special pup be of comfort.

Heart was such a lovable and endearing darling. A highlight of my month, I would go to the monthly Meet & Greyts to be with the wonderful well-loved greyhounds and their "people". Beautiful, inquisitive gentle Heart was virtually always the first to come greet me upon arrival remembering how much I needed a shnozzle to nuzzle, since I don't have my own greyt one. Heart was an extraordinary ambassadog for greyhounds, seeming to know how to befriend anyone who came near with the perfect level of charisma, charm, and tenderness. I loved her so much and cherished her gentle ways. At the end of the Meet & Greyt, as we packed up all the dog beds, waterbowl, and such, Heart had a delightful spark of mischief. As we stacked multiple dog beds for making a big roll, Heart would luxuriate atop the stack... like a royal princess for just a moment... always making us laugh once more before it was time to leave... Now that she's bolted for the Rainbow Bridge, I will picture her on the highest comfiest perch with the best view... so she can watch over her wonderful human Mama, her fellow greyt sister, and her many many friends on Earth who are missing Heart with all of our hearts... Certainly her memory will always be for a blessing, as she was an incomparable blessing to all who had the immense joy of her love and friendship. Rest in peace, cherished Heart. - Cindy M.

We feel so lucky to have known Heart. She was a sweet, soulful girl with the kindest eyes. Even after all she’d been through, she simply wanted to love and be loved. Her calm presence and gentle nudges for affection always made us smile. We’ll never forget her tender spirit or how truly special it was to be in her company. She is treasured and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

“Nurse Heart” took greyt care of everyone she could sense the need for it. Part of her healing powers were those big beautiful brown eyes. One long, loving gaze and it turned any frown upside down. Heart loved helping others so much she found her calling with Paws to Read. She was also an extra special ambassdog for GSGA. Always one of the first to spring over to the newcomers with a greyt big smile and spread the greyhound love. She loved her oatmeal, her stuffies, her cozy bed and blankets, and her short strolls down the court. But she found the most comfort with mom and sister Dawn. Run free, sweet Heart. You will live on in our hearts forever.
