Truffle
Truffle was our first rescue dog. After the loss of our beloved Jack, I started volunteering at a local shelter. Almost a year later, a volunteer brought in a Staffie who’d had several litters of puppies with a backyard breeder who no longer wanted her. The shelter renamed her Truffle due to her brown and white brindle coat, and I thought she was one of the cutest dogs I’d ever seen! She was wary of men, but warmed to Steve after several visits, and we ended up adopting her exactly a year after we lost Jack. We had her for over 11 years, including 5 years when my husband was working in London. I stayed behind with her due to the UK’s breed discrimination laws. She went everywhere with me, and became an informal ambassador for bully breeds! Our Truffle was incredibly intelligent, athletic and, above all, loving beyond words. She spent her last year as a tripod, facing bone cancer with such courage and determination. She serves as an inspiration to all who knew her, and will live in our hearts forever.
