A Best Friends Angels Rest Pet Memorial

Maximus Richard Gokey

2011 – 2024

Max was the true embodiment of a best friend and family companion. We found each other at the Austin Animal Center when he was 1 and a 1/2 and he was on his 3rd stay at the shelter. I told the staff I was looking for a black and brown German shepherd type dog. They said “well, there’s Max” in a drawn out way. As soon as I met him I knew he was ours and we were his forever home and family. Max was smart, loving and loyal. He conquered recovery from several surgeries while we had him and was known to his vet as a miracle after his last major surgery. He lived happily for 3 years after that. Max was with me through the loss of my parents and I think he waited until I was healed before he crossed the rainbow bridge. Forever loved by his forever family.

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
