Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
Zoey had a very tough start. She was a small 6 pound cat who was found behind a dumpster and luckily was rescued by a Veterinary employee who trapped her. Zoey was pregnant and this tiny little girl had 5 kittens. Her kittens were quickly adopted and Zoey was adopted only to be surrendered where she spent several months at the Shelter before I saw her. She was on kitty Prozac for anxiety and I was told she had inappropriate urination problems. I knew I had to rescue her so we went home where after several weeks was slowly introduced to her new sister, Abby. We moved to a new house and Zoey had some problems but I just accepted it. Big sister Abby who outweighed Zoey by about 7 pounds liked wrestling with Zoey. I thought she would get hurt, so I rescued a 5 month old kitten, Lexi. Zoey continued to urinate in unwanted places and I had her checked out by several different vets. I finally worked with a cat behaviorist but even though small progress was made it continued. I had Zoey checked out by a new vet who ran blood tests and it showed Zoey had Feline leukemia, but a second test run had negative results. I decided to see a highly recommended vet close to home and the tests showed an extremely high white blood cell count. Little Zoey was trying to fight off the infection as best she could but only 19 months after I adopted Zoey she lost a hard fought battle and died at home. I sure miss my little darling.
