Solomon

2019

We adopted our dog, an American Staffordshire Terrier that we named Solomon in 2005. As soon as I saw his picture in the paper, I knew I wanted him. My husband and I adopted him from the local Humane Society before they were a no-kill shelter and he was actually scheduled to be put down. He had trust issues due to his past. While his other "family" had abandoned him, left him tied up to a tree and moved off; when he came to live with us, he was not only our pet, he was our son. He lived in the house, went camping with us and stole our heart. He was a mighty protector and an even bigger lover. He was as smart as he was loyal. He passed away in December of 2016; the vet figured he was about 16.
His life taught us how to be better, not only to other dogs but to other people. He had a beautiful life with us, filled with love, happiness, and dog biscuits! In changing his life, he changed ours. We loved him so much it was hard to say goodbye. Even though we agreed we would never have another dog, due to the heartbreak of losing Solomon, after a year and a half we were ready to share our hearts again. We adopted another AmStaff, a blue and white one three months ago from another shelter that we have named Axl. Solomon will be forever missed and forever loved and we intend to give Axl the same second chance at life that Solomon got.

Remembrances

Leaving a personal story, memory, or words of support for a pet’s family is a heartfelt way to pay tribute and provide comfort. As part of your remembrance, we also invite you to leave a virtual token along with your words — similar to our tradition here at the Sanctuary of leaving stones, beloved items, or small toys on the graves of cherished animals.
